Porterbrook supports Rail200

08.09.03

2004 Rail Bicentary Logo 2004 is an important year for Britain's railways. It marks the 200th anniversary of the run of the first steam locomotive to run on rails - Richard Trevithick's locomotive at the Pen Y Darren colliery - as well as the centenary of the first 100mph run by the City of Truro. It is also 400 years since the first recorded existence of rail track in Britain.

As such, 2004 will see a wide variety of celebrations marking these important milestones as well as highlighting the achievements of today and looking forward to the future of rail travel. Events will range from major public Bicentennial Rail Celebrations run by the National Railway Museum (NRM) to smaller-scale local activities. Details of all these events can be found on the Rail200 website at www.rail200.com
