The first refurbished Class 158, re-numbered Class 159/1 was delivered to train operator South West Trains. The refurbishment undertaken by Wabtec included an upgraded first class area, improved lighting, toilet retention tank and an increase in the standard of passenger facilities. There were also a number of reliability modifications made.
Porterbrook announced the completion of the fitment of On Train Data Recorders (OTMR) to its operational fleet.
The contract, agreed in 2003, was for Arrowvale to supply over 1000 OTMR units, and Porterbrook to have its vehicles fitted by December 2005. The final fitting was achieved on all operational vehicles within the programme schedule and see Porterbrook's fleet become fully compliant with Railway Group Standard GM/RT2472 “Data Recorders on Trains – Design Requirements.”
