Based with a HQ in Derby and a satellite office in London, Porterbrook specialises in the leasing of all types of UK railway vehicle rolling stock and associated equipment. It has a rolling stock fleet of over 6,000 vehicles (approximately 1/3 of the UK fleet): this includes passenger vehicles, freight locomotives and wagons. Porterbrook also provides train maintenance services, and invests in station equipment such as platform barriers.
Engineers have a key role within the company, working closely with both customers who operate train services and our suppliers who provide materials and maintenance services. The role of the Engineer is interesting and varied, including maintenance management, contract management, project management, relationship management, resolution of technical issues, asset configuration and condition management. These aspects may apply to management of the existing fleet or as part of the process of procuring new vehicles.
Porterbrook has an IMechE accredited MPDS scheme which all entrants would join. This offers a comprehensive training and competence development program within Porterbrook and by gaining experience at other railway companies. The MPDS ultimately leads to a responsible position within Porterbrook and Chartered Engineer status.
