These are basic box wagons for moving bulk aggregates, mainly ballast. They offer the maximum volume and are simpler to maintain that hopper wagons. Produced in large numbers in Thrall, York, in the 1990s they are the largest of a number of variants for moving high volumes of material. Other versions use lower sides to reduce the volume and avoid overloading when carrying dense materials.
