Class 57/0 HST

75 mph
Diesel Loco
Freightliner
Fleet 12
These locomotives were converted from the highly successful Class 47 from 1997, further variants bringing the total number of conversions to 33, with more conversions possible.  The locomotives receive a major overhaul and re-work, but the most significant change is the fitting of a GM 645 – 12E3 engine.  This engine is renowned for reliability and provides 1860 kW (2500 hp) via Brush electrical equipment.  The locomotives are adapted for heavy freight haulage and provide an economical alternative to new traction for freight services.  The original Class 57, 57601 was the result of an initiative between Brush and Porterbrook, which turned out to be a successful speculative venture.
