Rail Live 2022

Long Marston Rail Innovation Centre hosted Rail Live 2022, the first time the event has been held at the site since Porterbrook took over in June 2021 and invested £3 million to modernise and enhance the facilities.

Coinciding with Porterbrook’s one-year anniversary at the site, the two-day event was the UK’s largest outdoor rail exhibition, with 225 exhibitors, around 5000 visitors and over £600 million of plant, machinery and rolling stock showcased over the two days.

A number of senior figures from the rail industry attended this year including Network Rail’s Group Safety and Engineering Director Martin Frobisher, National Skills Academy for Rail Chief Executive Neil Robertson and the Chief Inspector of Railways Ian Prosser CBE.

Visitors were able to see several Porterbrook assets; including the UK’s first hydrogen-ready passenger train HydroFLEX, Britain’s first 100mph capable battery-diesel hybrid train HybridFLEX - which entered passenger service this February - and the electric-diesel hybrid ROG Class 768, with traction capability for delivering express freight anywhere in the network.
