Class 144 Evolution

Porterbrook aims to transform perceptions of the Class 144 fleet by improving the exterior, upgrading the interior and investing in the latest on-board technologies. One unit is currently being refurbished to show what can be achieved even though the Northern ITT has stated that these vehicles will not be required long term within that franchise. Fleets that can provide an attractive service at a cost effective price are as important now as when these vehicles were first conceived.

The Class 144 is technically sound and reliable and there is no reason why it could not operate successfully and economically for years to come.

Porterbrook is convinced that a radical upgrade of the fleet will unlock its potential to continue to deliver value for money services whilst meeting the needs of today’s passengers.

The attached brochure shows our plans in more detail. The Class 144 Evolution unit will be delivered to Northern Rail in the next few months and will be running in passenger service enabling everyone to see the transformation.
