Porterbrook secures FOAK 2022 funding

Porterbrook has been successful in securing First of a Kind funding for a project to reduce NOx emissions in closed stations.

First of a Kind (FOAK) is funded by the Department for Transport and managed by Innovate UK. Winners receive funding to help develop novel technology which improves rail services and lowers carbon emissions on trains.

Porterbrook has already developed an exhaust after-treatment system which significantly reduces the emissions from mid-life diesel trains. The new FOAK funding is a feasibility study looking to further improve the technology with the intent of dramatically improving its effectiveness in covered stations.

This feasibility project will be led by Porterbrook alongside Eminox, which has supplied rail exhaust solutions to diesel engines for several decades.
