Porterbrook volunteers at the 2022 Commonwealth Games

Throughout the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, Porterbrook employees volunteered alongside colleagues from West Midlands Trains to support the thousands of visitors arriving at University Station for the hockey and squash events.

Team members including engineers, HR, reception and procurement staff could be seen handing out water and freebies, giving directions and helping to manage crowds, alongside Chief Operating Officer Ben Ackroyd and Chief Investment Officer Stefan Rose.

Running from Thursday 28th July until Monday 8th August, the Commonwealth Games featured 6,600 athletes from 72 nations, and over a million tickets were sold for spectators to see the games live.

Porterbrook Chief Investment Officer Stefan Rose said: “We’d like to thank all the West Midlands Trains staff and volunteers at University Station for their hospitality and friendliness over the last two weeks. It was a pleasure to play our part in supporting you to manage the record number of passengers coming through the station.”
