Supporting STEM engagement at National Railway Museum

While Railway 200 is a valuable opportunity to reflect on the history of rail, it’s equally about looking ahead to inspire the next generation of railway professionals.

This month, members of the Porterbrook team visited our partners at the National Railway Museum to help encourage STEM learning among Key Stage 3 students.

With support from our volunteers, students took part in a range of hands-on activities demonstrating core engineering principles, from designing and building bridges to creating miniature rail networks using programmable robots.

There were also Q&A sessions, where the students could ask our team about their experiences in the rail industry and the varied career paths that led them there.

With some of the group involved in a science club at school, there were some thoughtful questions about alternative fuels and brake traction.
