HydroFLEX showcased at The Greatest Gathering

Following a successful Railway 200 event at the Severn Valley Railway in July, the Porterbrook team were again part of the bicentenary celebrations at The Greatest Gathering from 1–3 August.

The event, held at Alstom’s historic Litchurch Lane Derby Works, was the world’s largest ever temporary gathering of historic and modern trains, drawing more than 40,000 visitors from across the world.

As Railway 200 centres on the past, present and future of the railway, Porterbrook were proud to be showcasing innovative technology paving the way for a more sustainable industry.

This included the UK’s first and only hydrogen-ready heavy rail passenger train HydroFLEX, developed and tested at the Long Marston Rail Innovation Centre.

As well as touring the train’s hydrochamber, attendees were able to participate in The Hydrogen Challenge to get a hands-on experience with hydrogen fuel cells in a fun environment.

Porterbrook also showcased an interactive demonstrator to bring remote condition monitoring to life, illustrating how real-time data can be used to enhance fleet performance, safety and reliability.
